The road back to Paris

Our time in France is drawing to a close; today we need to get back to Paris, return our car, and check in to a hotel near the airport. We also need to get Covid tests, which we plan to get in Chartes.

Chartes is an old enough city (back to at least 200 BC) that its 1000-year-old cathedral is a ‘newer’ building. It is a 3-hour drive from Mont St. Michael; we chose a slightly longer route in order to see more of the French countryside.

Getting Covid Tests

This was the least pleasant part of our stay. We couldn’t find any clear instructions for how to make reservations online, and were lucky enough to be able to make a walk-in appointment.

While we waited for our appointment, we were able to enjoy the Cathedral and a number of little stores.

Shops

Most of the shops are clothes, but there quite a few furniture, knick-knack, antiques, and food stores. I’ll just post a few pictures of some Chocolatiers and Patisseries.

The area around the Cathedral has a very eclectic mix of structures. Here are few that stood out enough to photograph as we passed by:

After leaving Chartes, we had another 90 minutes of driving to get to the airport where we returned our rental car and checked into our last hotel. Tomorrow, we fly home!
