After an overnight flight- which included some bumpy air over the North Atlantic- we landed safely at Charles de Gaulle airport.
The line to get through customs was long… And then there was a train ride into Paris…
….and then all of a sudden we emerged from the underground Metro station and found ourselves standing on the Champs Elysees! …and our apartment was less that 100 meters away.
After dropping off luggage, we took a walk on the Champs down to the Arc du Triomphe.

I think the official name of the plaza where the L’Arc d’Triomphe is located is Place Charles de Gaulle. But historically it has always been known as La Place de L’Etoile (and I would be surprised if most Parisians who live in the area don’t still refer to it by that name). The historical name derives from the fact that 12 boulevards radiate in a circle from the plaza. These boulevards have names that are redolent in French military history (Foch, Kleber, Carnot, Marceau, etc.) but also pay homage to one of France’s greatest literary lights: Victory Hugo.
